Gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernias, and esophageal cancer.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Many patients have gastroesophageal reflux disease, which can often be managed medically. However, patients with persistent gastroesophageal reflux disease may require fundoplication to manage their reflux when medical therapy is insufficient. This procedure can be performed robotically and typically requires only an overnight stay.

Hiatal hernia: Patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease may develop hiatal hernias, which can sometimes occur without any reflux. These hernias can be monitored until they reach a certain size, at which point they can be repaired minimally invasively, typically requiring only an overnight stay.

Esophageal cancer: Gastroesophageal reflux disease can also lead to esophageal cancer. These cancers are often initially treated with chemotherapy and radiation, but the best outcomes occur when the cancer is surgically removed. Although this is a complex procedure, Dr. Roberts has experience and routinely manages such cases.
